Dear Colleagues,

Hope this finds you well. We are delighted to invite you to apply to FIT-PM, a Facilitator-in-Training Peer Mentoring program in 2023-2024.

What is Group Peer Mentoring (GPM)? Facilitated group peer mentoring is a mentoring strategy consisting of small groups of faculty led by a facilitator who meet regularly for mentoring sessions. This model has been shown to effectively promote faculty vitality, career progression, and leadership skills, while also supporting goals of diversity, equity and inclusion. To make peer mentoring scalable, we will be offering our second facilitator training program at Weill Cornell, which was delivered in the past, with excellent results. We are currently recruiting the second cohort of facilitators-in-training from across Weill Cornell.

What is FIT-PM, a Group Peer Mentoring Facilitator-in-Training program? FIT-PM is a longitudinal training program from May 2023-May 2024 with facilitator-trainers, Drs. Swana De Gijsel and Kimberly Bloom-Feshbach. We have experience in training group peer mentoring facilitators, working with DEI principles, and helping health care organizations to change culture in positive ways. Kimberly and Swana are also facilitators on the faculty with VitalTalk and the Academy of Communication in Healthcare, respectively.

Program Requirements:

  • Attend 5 full days of in-person training: May 17, 18, and 19, 2023; September 21 and 22, 2023.
  • Participate in 4 virtual/hybrid training sessions: November 9, 2023 from 1-5, January 18, 2024 from 1-5 PM, April 18, 2024 from 1-5 PM, and May 23, 2024 from 1-3 PM (in person, with hybrid attendance available).
  • Co-facilitate 4 full day sessions of a Peer Mentoring Group (October, December, February, May). You will co-facilitate a mentoring group together with another trained facilitator, from October 2023-May 2024. Groups will include Early Career Researchers across Weill Cornell, Leaders in Medical Education across Weill Cornell, Clinical Early and Mid-Career Faculty across Weill Cornell, Early and Mid-Career Faculty (DOM), and Clinical Scholars Faculty (DOM; GIM).

What you can expect:

  • Learn core facilitation skills to handle group formation and challenges that may arise, as well as advanced skills to help mentees with career planning, negotiation, DEI, coaching and more.
  • In leading your own group, you can expect continued coaching, observation, support and learning opportunities.
  • Gain personal and professional benefits from the group of facilitators in training, including increased mentoring and leadership skills, career clarity, deepened meaning in work, and fun.
  • A 360-evaluation process, which if successful, will include Certification as a Group Peer Mentoring Facilitator at Weill Cornell.
  • A stipend will be offered upon completing all training and facilitation of 4 GPM Sessions.

We hope that there will be opportunities to make group peer mentoring facilitation part of your professional work at Weill Cornell and beyond.
